Toddler area

Fort Douglas Play Park is perfect for younger kids, especially with its awesome toddler area. There’s a flying fox, jumping pillow, mini tractors, and lots of swings – all designed to keep little ones busy and having fun. Plus, the toddler section is fenced off, so kids can play independently while parents can chill nearby. It’s the ideal place for toddlers to run around, get some fresh air, and just have a blast in a safe spot.

Bigger kids

For the older kids, there’s no shortage of fun! With two giant jumping pillows, kids can bounce super high, try flips, and just go wild. There are also two awesome forts, each with cool details including rope bridges and fly foxes. Kids love exploring everything the forts have to offer. To keep the fun going, each fort has slides for a speedy, exciting ride back down. Between climbing, sliding, and exploring, there’s plenty of room for kids to burn off some energy.

A few things to keep in mind

While Dalkeith Country Park and Fort Douglas Play Park offer a fantastic family experience, there are a few things to consider before you go.

1. Price tag: At £5 for adults to enter Fort Douglas, the charge can add up quickly, making it an expensive outing if you're visiting with parents and grandparents.

2. Time slots: Another aspect to be mindful of is the two time slots for entry – 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 5pm. While this does help manage crowd levels, it does mean you need to plan your visit carefully. If you’re travelling with younger children, be sure to time your arrival and departure to make the most of your visit. The limited time slots can feel a bit restrictive if you're used to a more flexible schedule.

3. Car parking: If you plan to drive to Dalkeith Country Park, there is a additional £3 fee for parking.

4. Lunch: Dalkeith Country Park offers a variety of food options. To save money, you can use the numerous picnic benches available at Fort Douglas.

My little one had a great morning at Fort Douglas, we are looking forward to coming back. If you are looking for more information click here.
