Looking for a fun day out that won’t break the bank, and supports a great cause too? Bird Gardens Scotland is one of those places that once you visit, you’ll wonder how you hadn’t heard of it sooner. It’s a real hidden gem – full of charm, animals, and lovely little surprises around every corner.

Pay once, visit all year
One of the most unbelievable things about Bird Gardens Scotland is the price. When you buy your ticket, you’re not just getting a single-day visit – you can come back as many times as you like over the next 12 months. That makes it an amazing deal, especially for families or locals.
Here’s what it costs:
Adults – £14
Concessions (60+ or full-time students) – £8
Children/Young People (5–18 years) – £8
Under 5s – FREE
Essential Carers – FREE
For everything you get to see and do, it's a bargain – and your money goes towards supporting the animals and ongoing rescue work.
From wallabies to flamingos – say hello to the animals
At the ticket desk, you can buy small bags of bird seed to feed some of the birds – such a lovely way to get up close and interact with them. Kids especially love it (though let’s be honest, the adults do too!).
But it’s not just birds here – there are wallabies bouncing around, including some adorable baby ones. We even caught the emus having a splash in the lake – something you don’t see every day! Over in the pond, there’s beautiful flamingos, and if you're feeling fancy, you can book a flamingo feeding experience for £60 for a group of up to six – definitely something unique if you're planning a special outing.
Don’t miss the Baby Barn either – it’s full of newly hatched chicks and ducklings (they arrived on April 1st!) and they are ridiculously cute.
As we wandered up the hill, we spotted white peacocks, some incredible owls, and even cranes – the variety of birds here is amazing.
Coffee, cake and creatures
When you’re ready for a break, the café is the perfect pit stop – it even has flamingo biscuits, which were almost too cute to eat. Almost. And tucked away at the back is a reptile area, where you can meet a bearded dragon, snakes, and some very chilled tortoises.
Outside of the café there are two playparks: one for smaller children and one for the bigger kids, so everyone’s covered
Location
It's just off the A68 in Oxton so really easy to get to. Technically it's in the Scottish Borders but isn't far away, particularly if you live in East Lothian. stay in East Lothian
So if you’re looking for something a bit different, relaxed, and packed with charm, pop over to Bird Gardens Scotland. Whether it’s your first visit or your tenth, there’s always something new to see.
