Updated: 4 days ago

Looking for a fun day out that won’t break the bank and supports a great cause too? Bird Gardens Scotland is the place to go. Once you visit, you’ll wonder how you hadn’t heard of it sooner. It’s a real hidden gem, full of charm, animals, and lovely surprises around every corner.

Pay Once, Visit All Year

One of the most unbelievable things about Bird Gardens Scotland is the ticket price. When you buy your ticket, you aren’t just getting a single-day visit. You can come back as many times as you like over the next 12 months. That makes it an amazing deal, especially for families or locals.

Ticket Prices

Here’s what it costs:

  • Adults – £14

  • Concessions (60+ or full-time students) – £8

  • Children/Young People (5–18 years) – £8

  • Under 5s – FREE

  • Essential Carers – FREE

For everything you get to see and do, it's a bargain. Your money goes towards supporting the animals and ongoing rescue work.

From Wallabies to Flamingos – Say Hello to the Animals

At the ticket desk, you can buy small bags of bird seed to feed some of the birds. It’s a lovely way to interact with them. Kids especially love it, and let’s be honest, the adults do too!

Birds are just the beginning here. There are wallabies bouncing around, including some adorable babies. We even caught the emus splashing in the lake – something you don’t see every day! In the pond, you’ll find beautiful flamingos. If you're feeling fancy, you can book a flamingo feeding experience for £60 for a group of up to six. It's definitely something unique if you're planning a special outing.

Don’t miss the Baby Barn either. It’s full of newly hatched chicks and ducklings that arrived on April 1st! They are ridiculously cute. As we wandered up the hill, we spotted white peacocks, incredible owls, and even cranes. The variety of birds here is simply amazing.

Coffee, Cake, and Creatures

When you’re ready for a break, the café is the perfect pit stop. It even has flamingo biscuits, which are almost too cute to eat. Almost.

Tucked away at the back is a reptile area. Here, you can meet a bearded dragon, snakes, and some very chilled tortoises. Outside the café, two playparks are available: one for smaller children and one for older kids. This way, everyone is covered.

Location

Bird Gardens Scotland is easily accessible, just off the A68 in Oxton. Technically, it’s in the Scottish Borders but isn’t far away, especially for those in East Lothian.

If you’re seeking something unique, relaxed, and packed with charm, visit Bird Gardens Scotland. Whether it’s your first visit or your tenth, there’s always something new to see.
